Fly Fishing Lessons in the Rain?
All this rain will eventually mean much better fishing for all of us as our local lake levels rise and our rivers eventually
subside into safe enough flows. However, in the meantime, we still have time to develop our fly casting skills in between
those non-rainy days. I have expanded the available hours to accommodate those days when conditions are favourable for
a lesson, which means no rain or lightening in the area. Because of all the rain water run off into our local
creeks and streams, you could see a much different fishing environment that what you experienced in the past (of course, I
mean when the flows slow down to safe levels). For example, current flow on the Guadalupe River in the trout stock area
bewlow Caynon Dam have been well below 100 cfs and have actually hovered around 60 cfs in the previous 3 years or so.
Now if the flows go up to 150 to 250 and sustain at these levels that could not only improve the trout fishing but also present
new challenges to your cast and presentation. Learning some key "slack line presentations" will help you deal
with tricky current situations and increase your odds of cathing trout. I offer an intermediate lesson on these types
of presentations at the San Antonio River Park by the zoo. So let's plan some time together and call or text at 210-414-7418.
